Define the commercial purpose
State where the imagery will appear and what the customer needs to understand. A marketplace main image, a product-page detail and an editorial crop solve different problems.
- Owned ecommerce product page
- Marketplace listing
- Wholesale or sales portal
- Campaign and social crops
- Archive and future channel reuse
Build the shot standard
For each product type, define required views, details, crop, background, lighting, scale, shadow and colour expectations. Add category-specific requirements instead of forcing one template across footwear, apparel, swimwear and accessories.
Control samples and SKU mapping
Create one source list for sample location, readiness, styling requirements and SKU identity. File naming should be agreed before the shoot so approved assets can move into the catalogue without manual detective work.
Design the approval path
Approve a representative test product before the full run. Name the final decision-maker, define what counts as a correction or reshoot and set a response window that protects the launch date.
Specify channel-ready delivery
The final delivery should state file type, dimensions, colour profile, compression, naming, folder structure and required variants. Quality control should confirm both visual standard and SKU match before handoff.
